Road Trip

“Pack up the essentials”

Water
Fire
Caffeine
Tobacco tar

We smooth over a million miles in our car…

Spitting like cobras
Spinning smoke like dragons

Suns on fire
Dry smoldering sky

Cannot put it out
Till midnight liquid
Drowns it finally out

Blue ocean air
Cannot cool its anger

A thousand strands of gold
Grow ever old
Within mean hatred heat

This land sliced in half
By a million mile street

Clouds still collecting
Spilling silver lightening

Drops of rain
Slap windshield
Like bug-storm

Villain’s drive by
Like so many circus clowns
Clutching cleavers

Some strangers
Only mirrored glasses
Hiding hollow eyes

Driving from their pasts
Chains around their throats
Like goats

Fat tyrant queens
Slaves in grip

Promenading these highways
Casting curses
Like wicked witches

We glare insidious
With viscous reptile vision

Sending them a howling
Like banished banshees

Whipping their goat men as they go…

Stop in a ghost town
Where all who dwell – frown

“Friend – this town has brought you down”
